Blog #3: Smoothie Recipes

3-4 years ago, I started reading about superfoods and how they could impact your health and performance. Foods such as broccoli, blueberries, pineapples, coconut, cacao, and kale among others could be found on lists all over the internet and appeal to both athletes and fitness enthusiasts to look and feel better.

With a hectic schedule I found it difficult to try and find the time to prep enough meals that contained a lot of these different foods. I began researching different smoothie options and came up with several that I believe can benefit anyone! Below are some of my favorites with the benefits of each.

#1: Antioxidant Blend

  • 1-2 cups of Blueberries: Antioxidant loaded with Vitamin C
  • 2-4oz Organic Pomegranate Juice: Rich in potassium, vitamin C, antioxidants, and vitamin B6
  • 1-2 tbsp. Almond butter: High in calcium, magnesium, and vitamin-E
  • 1-2 scoops of Chocolate Whey Protein Powder: Provides 20-40 grams of protein
  • 1 cup chopped kale: High in vitamins k, a & c

***Blend with your choice of almond or skim milk

#2: Recovery Blend

  • ½ cup Pineapples: Contains Bromelain which has been shown to help with immunity
  • ½ cup Strawberries: Rich in vitamin C
  • ½ cup Mangos: Also high in vitamin C and A
  • 1 tsp of Turmeric: Natural anti-inflammatory
  • ¼ cup shredded coconut: Good source of iron, fiber, and healthy fats
  • 1 cup Spinach: Good natural source Iron
  • 1-2 scoops of Vanilla whey protein: Provides 20-40 grams of protein

***Blend with your choice of almond or skim milk

#3: Chocolate Express

  • ½ cup Cherries: Has been shown to reduce inflammation
  • ½ cup Raspberries: Good source of vitamin-C
  • 1 tbsp. Cacao powder: Loaded with antioxidants and has a long list of several health benefits
  • 1-2 scoops of Chocolate whey protein: Provides 20-40 grams of protein
  • 1-2 tbsp. Natural peanut butter: Good source of healthy fats
  • ½ cup Broccoli:  Loaded with vitamin C, vitamin K, and may support heart health
